Demolition a diversionary stunt: Vijai Sardesai

Goa Forward Party (GFP) president and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday criticised the partial demolition of the Romeo Lane structure at Vagator, calling it a ‘diversionary stunt’ and ac-cused the BJP government of adopting an “Uttar Pradesh-style bulldozer raj” to deflect attention from its own failures. “I have a pending case where demolition has been delayed since June 2025. I raised this matter in the House. An assurance was given, but nothing has been done. This is the next disaster waiting to happen. Will they demolish that?” he asked.

Sardesai questioned how the structure was allowed to be built on the salt pan, pointing out that the Goa government, the Panchayat, and the Central government are all BJP-led. He also alleged that the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub has another partner besides the Luthra brothers, claiming the individual is being shielded by a government officer. “There is another partner in the club, but his name has not been mentioned in the FIR. This man is close to an officer in the government. Someone has an interest in protecting him. This is my charge,” Sardesai said. He further questioned whether the Kazakhstan dancer performing at the nightclub had a valid work permit or visa and alleged that relatives of a BJP leader were run ning a “dance bar,” asking if this is the government’s idea of “spiritual tourism.
