MAPUSA: The demolition work of the old building which collapsed on Sunday was in progress. The top structure has been demolished however the work is expected to take a few more days.
The demolition work which is being carried out by the Mapusa Municipal Council with the help of a JCB. Accordingly the traffic on this road was closed and diverted to avoid any untoward incident.
Chairperson of MMC, Ryan Braganza told Herald on Tuesday that they were in the process of razing down the entire building and the cost incurred would be recovered from the owners.
“Once the base structure is demolished the debris will be needed to be cleared. The main state highway road has been cleared and open for public while the internal road has still got some debris. The completion of work will depend on traffic flow and also on the rain,” said Ryan.
One may recall that a portion of the building housing the old office of Civil Registrar-Cum-Sub-Registrar at Feira-Alta, Mapusa came crumbling down on early Sunday morning.
