Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided that services of senior division of NCC cadets shall be utilized by deploying them for duties to general election of Lok Sabha.
Cadets would be required for poll day duty within their districts only. It will be restricted only on that day.
They would be required to be in uniform but without any arms. They would be paid remuneration at the same rate as any other polling personnel going to polling station for election duty.
The EC had earlier experimented NCC cadets by drawing them in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan during the recent assembly election held there and the experience was good hence this proposal to utilise their services.
This letter has been sent by Shanga Ram, principal secretary, ECI to the Secretary, Ministry of Defense, South Block and copies of which are marked to CEO of all states.
The office of CEO has already forwarded the letter to director general of police (DGP).
