PANJIM: The Philatelic Bureau at Panjim Head Office is expected to close with Department of Posts (Philately Division) New Delhi communicating to its branch offices across the country about discontinuing 31 Philately Bureaus including that in Goa.
GOACAN has expressed concern about the proposed shutting down of the Philatelic Bureau at Panaji Head Post Office from Monday, July 12 and called for a review of the decision by the Department of Post New Delhi.

Sunil Sharma Director (Philately) Department of Posts (Philately Division) New Delhi on July 8 communicated that “it has been decided to rationalize Philatelic bureaus in the country. Based on past performance of Bureaus, it has been decided to discontinue 31 Philatelic Bureaus from 12.07.2021.” The Philatelic Bureau at Panaji Head Post Office which comes under the Maharashtra Circle is one of those to be shut down.
“GOACAN has for many years been raising the point that the Philatelic Bureau in Goa must be strengthened by increasing the subscription base among consumers in the major towns of Panjim, Mapusa, Margao, Ponda and Vasco so that the same becomes financially stable,” GOACAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins said.
During the tenure of then Post Master General (PMG) Charles Lobo, “Post Forums” were set up at major Post Offices and met quarterly to address the grievances of consumers as well as to boost the revenue of the Post Offices.
