MARGAO: Inspection of the Silver Sands Beach Resort at Colva on Tuesday has revealed that the hotel was still in operation despite the expiry of the seven-day deadline for closure set by the Goa State Pollution Control Board.
Deputy Collector Margao Sangeeta Naik and other officials descended on the hotel premises on Tuesday evening, only to find the hotel in operation. Inspection of the hotel further revealed that around 43 out of the 60-odd rooms were occupied, while the hotel carried out business as usual today.
When the Deputy Collector questioned the hotel management over the operation of the hotel despite the GSPCB directions to close down the premises within seven days, an executive maintained that the hotel has approached the Pollution Board for the consent to operate.
The Deputy Collector has maintained that the hotel management has not produced the consent to operate the hotel submitted to the GSPCB, adding that it is liable for closure.
Meanwhile, Colva Sarpanch, Snowkon Gonsalves has slammed the inordinate delay in closing down the hotel premises.
