MAPUSA: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Monday informed the residents of residents of Sauntawaddo and Calangute that the DGP has already directed the Calangute PI to arrest all the pimps operating in the areas.
He was addressing the residents of Sauntawaddo and Calangute at a meeting to provide solution to issues such as touts, prostitution, beggars, illegal handcarts, drug peddlers, traffic and parking in Baga and Calangute. He further informed that the DGP has also instructed the PI to book these pimps under various sections and if they continued with their illegal activities then they would moved out of the constituency following legal guidelines and procedures.
He said, “Calangute and Baga had around 300 to 400 illegal handcarts in the past, which have now been reduced to 40 and the same would be removed at the earliest. These illegal ice-cream carts and hawkers along Baga-Calangute main road need to be cleared for the smooth flow of traffic”.
Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi and Traffic PI Salim and Calangute were also present at the meeting which was convened following complaints from the residents against the people from Bihar, UP, Maharashtra and Karnataka for starting their business without taking requisite permissions from the authorities.
According to sources, these handcart owners allegedly conduct their business without FDA and Health Department licences and without a panchayat NOC. It was decided at the meeting that the MLA would write to the panchayat secretary and Sarpanch complaining against a panch for “illegally” collecting money from the hawkers at late night and for allowing them to run their “illegal” activities.
