PERNEM: The bridge connecting Ward 1 and 7 in Tuem is in dire straits. This bridge was constructed almost three decades ago and is currently showing signs of wear and tear and has developed potholes and cracks.
These structural issues pose a significant danger to commuters and increase the risk of accidents. The problem initially surfaced four years ago when cracks began to appear on the bridge. Local residents approached the authorities at that time, but unfortunately, no action was taken. Frustrated by the lack of response from authorities, the locals have now covered the potholes with mud. The residents have requested the PWD, the MLA and the Panchayat to address this issue urgently.

Villager Uday Mandrekar said this is the main connection to the Tuem Industrial estate where commercial vehicles move. “School buses also use this route and it is an important means of communication. This bridge has been neglected for years. I appeal to the PWD to repair this bridge immediately. There is a possibility of a major tragedy if the bridge breaks,” Mandrekar stated.
Another villager Anil Harmalkar stated that there are potholes on the approach road to the bridge. “We have filed complaints with authorities that the bridge is in a bad shape. The potholes were so deep that villagers themselves brought a truck load of stones and filled them. On the other side, the approach road too is full of potholes. I appeal to the local MLA and the PWD to repair this bridge and approach roads on priority,” Harmalkar said.
