PANJIM: In a move aimed at improving road safety and traffic management across Goa, Siddhi Halarnakar, Director of Panchayats, has instructed all Block Development Officers (BDOs) in the State to ensure that every village panchayat establishes a Road Safety and Traffic Management Committee if one has not already been formed.

In a memorandum, Halarnakar directed BDOs to have village panchayats create these committees to address road safety and traffic management issues. She also mandated that these committees hold regular meetings to identify problems and frequent causes of accidents within their villages.

Additionally, Halarnakar requires that the minutes of these meetings be submitted to the respective BDOs. The BDOs are then to forward the minutes to the concerned Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) and the Additional Director of Transport for each district.

This initiative aims at using a grassroots approach to tackling road safety concerns, involving local communities in the process of identifying and addressing potential hazards as well as streamlining the implementation of road safety measures across the State.
