PANJIM: Moses Joao Fernandes, the accused in multiple land forgery cases, has been remanded in police custody for three days, following his arrest in Utorda.
Fernandes was wanted in three property forgery cases by Porvorim Police Station and was absconding for the last two years. All three cases were later transferred to the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) of Goa Police.
Sources said Fernandes was working at a beach restaurant in Utorda and was picked up by the EOC.
Police said that Fernandes’ custodial interrogation is required to ascertain further details in forgery of government documents and selling property.
Fernandes was wanted in the property forgery cases of Arjuna awardee of Goan origin, Dr Otilia Mascarenhas. Fernandes and four others were wanted in three other similar cases.
He has been picked up for his involvement in the 2014 forgery case filed by Dr Sandra De Sa Souza.
According to her complaint the property measuring 1525 sq mtrs was sold by Fernandes after making a forged power of attorney of her late husband and executing the sale deed in the name of Estevan D’Souza and Abdul Aziz Khan who are also accused in the same case.
In all three cases, Fernandes has forged a power of attorney and later sold the property.
Police said he was currently working a cook on the restaurant at Utorda at a salary of Rs 12,000 a month. He was earlier arrested by Porvorim Police and released on bail. The bail has been cancelled following violation of its condition.
