The draft GSUDA scheme entails rehabilitating around 78 displaced gadda traders on the ground floor in the ground plus three storey commercial building planned on the acquired land admeasuring 4000 sq mts at the Old Market Circle.
A municipal engineer said that though a provision can be made to rehabilitate all the 300-400 gaddas in the town, including the displaced and those in the road widening areas, the draft scheme has proposed to rehabilitate only 78 gadda traders on the ground floor so as not to concentrate all the traders at one place.
It is learnt that the scheme has a provision to accommodate another 78 traders on the first floor of the commercial building, but only after receiving a nod from the traders.
GUSDA has kept the first floor option taking into account the objections from the traders that they will not be able to do business on the first floor. In the event the traders do not show any interest in the first floor, the area will then be converted into a shopping complex.
