Drastic hike in tatkal fees for registration of sale deeds

Govt increases fees for normal tatkal appointments from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000; for ‘Special Tatkal Appointments’, party has to pay a whopping Rs 2 lakh for registering documents

SANGUEM: In an unexpected move, the government has drastically hiked the tatkal fees for registration of sale deeds, agreements for sale and other documents on the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) portal.

Considering the increasing demand, the government has also hiked the fees for normal tatkal appointments from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000.

In addition to this, the government also introduced a new segment ‘Special Tatkal Appointments’ wherein the party has to pay a whopping Rs 2 lakh for registering their documents.

The tatkal appointment scheme was introduced a couple of years ago in the NGDRS for registration of property documents wherein a party intending to register the document on an emergency basis after the allotted slots for the day at the sub registrar office are filled on payment of nominal fee of Rs 10,000.

The system would be of great help to people scheduled to travel abroad and could not get leave to stay back in Goa. The system would also help people of Margao, Panjim, Mapusa and Vasco where the schedule appointments for the day would be filled soon.

The new rates have been made applicable from April 2, 2024, as per the note issued on the NGDRS portal.

The sudden increase in the tatkal fees has surprised the legal fraternity and the builders who have termed the move as unexpected and unbelievable.
