The two and half month long competition titled Run Swim Board Run commenced on February 2 and will continue till April 14, with a total prize money of Rs 60,000 besides certificates for winners.
“Fitness for lifeguards who provide water safety and beach lifeguarding services in Goa is critical to their performance. Regular workouts are the norm rather than a one off event,” Drishti’s Manoj Agiwal stated.
The competition has been made compulsory for all lifeguards irrespective of their ranks with the Drishti official saying, “It is a vital part of the regular day to day jobs of a lifeguard as rescues happen within the surf zone while their speed and agility to rescue victims makes a difference between life and death.”
The judging will be based on best timing in performing these tasks. “This ensures fitness and wellness of the team which in turn will have to serve on the beach belt of Goa where tourists throng from far and wide.”
Goa tourism makes all efforts to ensure that Goa is a safe holiday destination for tourists on and off the shores,” Tourism Director Ameya Abhyankar said.
The ongoing competition on the beaches of north and south Goa is being held between 9:30am to 10:30 am from Monday to Thursday.
