Several Indian expatriate workers were among the seven people killed in a devastating road accident on Dubai’s Emirates Road on Monday, the Indian Consulate in Dubai confirmed.
The tragedy unfolded when a minibus collided with a truck that had reportedly broken down and stopped in the middle of the road. The crash also left nine people injured, prompting an immediate response from emergency services and local authorities.

Consulate extends support to victims
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Indian Consulate expressed grief over the loss of lives and said officials had already visited the hospital to meet the injured Indian nationals.
“Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Dubai that claimed the lives of several Indian workers. Our officials visited the hospital, met the injured Indians, and are working closely with local authorities to provide all possible assistance and support. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the grieving families during this difficult time,” the mission said.
While the consulate confirmed that Indian nationals were among those killed, it did not disclose the identities of the victims or the exact number of Indian fatalities. Officials said they remain in constant touch with Dubai Police and health authorities to coordinate assistance.
How the accident happened
According to Dubai Police, the accident occurred after a truck suffered a technical malfunction and came to a halt in the middle of Emirates Road. A minibus travelling behind the vehicle crashed into the stationary truck.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said preliminary investigations indicated that the bus driver failed to maintain a safe distance and did not react in time to avoid the collision.
The accident resulted in seven deaths and nine injuries, including five people who sustained serious injuries and four others with moderate injuries. All injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Indians form one of the largest expatriate communities in the UAE, with many workers relying on shared transportation services to travel to and from work sites across the country.
