VASCO: Mormugao Deputy Collector Bhagwant ‘Pratik’ Karmali on Tuesday held a meeting with heads of various government departments to review the monsoon preparedness in the port town.
Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar was also present.
Karmali said that major issues discussed in the meeting were desilting of drainages and cutting of dangerous trees and necessary directions were issued to various departments to compete the works within the time-frame.
Salkar said that meeting was convened to discuss and review monsoon preparedness to meet any eventuality.
He said that information was sought from the Mormugao municipal council about the major drainages that had been cleaned and also from the Water Resources Department (WRD) about the desilting of nullahs.
Salkar further informed that the work of cutting dangerous tress and trimming branches of dangerous trees has been undertaken by using a crane. Also additional labourers have been given to the Vasco fire station to handle emergency situations during monsoon.
The Vasco MLA said that the health officials have also started anti-larva measures to control the vector-borne diseases and appealed to the citizens to keep their surrounding clean and not to allow stagnation of water in their houses and surrounding areas.
The Electricity Department office has also been asked to take measures to avoid power outages during monsoon.
