Panjim: Following complaints by political parties about objections being raised in the name of the dead people in the Mormugao constituency, the office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Wednesday directed the South District Electoral Officer (DEO) to take necessary action and submit a report within eight days.

The CEO has also directed DEO to replace the Booth Level Officers (BLO) with staff from different departments, after political parties pointed out 21 out of 29 BLOs are staffers from the constituency, are from the power department itself, which used to be headed by the Mormugao MLA Milind Naik, as the then Power Minister.
During their meeting with the CEO IAS Kunal, political parties Goa Forward Party (GFP) and Congress had pointed out that the objections were raised in the name of citizens who have already expired.
The letter written to DEO, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Sangeeta Naik said that the GFP representative has alleged that one Baramaoppa Chalwadi had expired on July 29, however, there is an online application form-7 filled in his name, as an objector in November in the Mormugao AC.
It was stated that in view of the concerns raised by the political parties regarding the parent’s offices of the BLOs of Mormugao taluka, directions have been issued to explore the possibility of replacing these BLOs from staff of other government departments instead of one single department.
The report from the DEO, on the action taken has to be submitted within eight days.
Congress General Secretary Sankalp Amonkar had initially raised a similar instance to the election officers in Mormugao Taluka bringing to their notice that objections were raised in the name of a dead person.
