PANJIM: Eight officers of the Goa Civil Service are set to be promoted to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), with the selection committee of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) clearing their names on Friday.

Elvis Gomes (2015), Menino D’Souza (2016), Narayan Sawant, Sanjit Rodrigues, Sanjiv Gadkar, Yatindra Maralkar and Prasad Lolayekar (2018) and Michael D’Souza (2019) have been cleared by the Selection Committee in the IAS cadre of AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories).
Last year, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had announced that Goa’s quota in the posts to be filled through promotion in the AGMUT cadre has been hiked from the existing 10 to 13.
The Selection Committee meeting held on Friday was attended by State Chief Secretary Parimal Rai.
Gomes had opted for voluntary retirement from State administration and went on to join the political outfit Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), of which he is still a member. He also had contested the 2017 Assembly elections and 2019 Parliamentary elections, and lost in both.
Currently, Menino D’Souza holds charge as Director Tourism, Rodrigues is Commissioner of the Corporation of the City of Panaji, Gadkar is special officer for Mopa airport, Lolayekar is holding charge as Director of Higher Education, Maralkar is currently
posted as Secretary Goa Public Service Commission, Michael D’Souza is Director of Goa Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development and Sawant is the joint electoral officer.
In 2016, three Goa officers – Sandip Jacques, Arun Desai and Swapnil Naik – were the last three officers who had made it to the IAS joint AGMUT cadre.
Prior to these, eight others were also similarly promoted to the elite cadre – AK Wasnik, SP Dixit, JB Singh, C Prabhakar, WV Ramanamurthy, Daulat Hawaldar, PS Reddy and Mihir Wardhan.
