CUNCOLIM: In a major blow to the BJP and Cuncolim BJP MLA Rajan Naik, Goa Civil Services officer Elvis Gomes, who recently sought VRS, has expressed his intention of contesting the forthcoming elections. At a closed door meeting in Cuncolim late Saturday night called to discuss his strategy going forward and to take into confidence his supporters, Gomes was urged to contest elections.
Nearly 100-odd supporters were present and the recent case filed against him and the government blocking his promotion were discussed. Prominent persons from the constituency were present for the meeting, including former Cuncolim municipal council chairperson Ramesh Dessai.
Gomes has a lot of clout in Cuncolim and is part of various local unions and an active supporter of sports activities in the area and received the full backing of his supporters who gave him the green signal to contest.
