Entertainment tax hiked

Watching a new film in your favourite cinema hall or multiplex will get costlier with the State government today issuing notifications hiking tax on entertainment services.
The government has also issued notification modifying the composition fee of shack allottees.
With the new amendment, the public will, now, have to pay 10 per cent entertainment tax on all cinema tickets upto Rs 50, 25 per cent tax on tickets priced between Rs 51 and 100 and 35 per cent tax on tickets exceeding Rs 100.
According to earlier rates, tickets upto Rs 50 were exempted from entertainment tax, on tickets between Rs 51 and Rs 100 it was 20 per cent and tiekets exceeding Rs 100 it was 30 per cent.
Besides, Entertainment Tax on DTH/Dish antenna will be now Rs 30 per connection per month.
In case of cable TV, tax on head-end control room is deleted, but tax on cable TV connection per month is enhanced from the existing Rs 10 to Rs 15 per connection per month.
The rate of entry fee to offshore casino is maintained at Rs 2000 per person per entry, whereas, the entry to land–based casino is reduced from Rs 2000 to Rs 500 per person per entry.
In another notification, the government has modified the composition fee of shack allottees.
In the last budget, shack owners were to pay Rs 2500 per year. The said fee is now reviewed according to the category of shacks.
Category ‘A’ shall pay Rs 25,000, Category ‘B’ shall pay Rs 20,000 and Category ‘C’ will pay Rs 15,000 per annum.
The announcement of the above hikes was made in the State budget, presented by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, in the budget session which concluded last week.
