PORVORIM: Already hassled by multiple identity cards like EPIC card, PAN card, Aadhaar card and driver’s licence? Now, be prepared for yet another card.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday stated that every Goan would soon be given a Unique Identification Number to help the government to keep a tab on residents availing of healthcare and other government benefits.
Parrikar was speaking after inaugurating the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Bhavan at Porvorim in the presence of Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and Sanquelim MLA and GSIDC Vice Chairman Dr Pramod Sawant.
Speaking further, Parrikar said the Unique Identification Number system would ensure that every Goan will be on the records of the State government.
Parrikar also announced that the government has decided to install nets on all bridges in the State to prevent people from polluting the rivers with waste material and also to prevent suicides.
Commenting on the situation at the Panjim municipal market, Parrikar said: “The municipal market at Panjim is in a mess and some councillors are responsible for this. I will look into the matter and ensure that everything is set in order and nobody will be allowed to use the market free of cost.”
Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Managing Director Sanjit Rodrigues said Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Bhavan is a green building, first of its kind government building in the State.
“The cost of the project is about Rs 23.3 crore and includes facilities like solar panels, LED light fixtures, vacuum toilets, hydro pneumatics water systems, rainwater harvesting, etc,” informed Rodrigues.Earlier, Parrikar unveiled the plaque of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Bhavan. Director of Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation welcomed the gathering and joint Director Vijay Saxena proposed the vote of thanks.
