Exam failure leads Sattari girl to suicide

VALPOI: A fourteen-year-old girl from Kudshe, Sattari committed suicide by taking an overdose of tablets on Sunday.

According to Valpoi Police Inspector Sanjay Dalvi the girl who failed in class ninth this year from a government high school in Sattari had consumed tablets after getting her exam results on Friday. She was rushed to the Valpoi community health centre from where she was referred to Goa Medical College, Bambolim.
She expired while undergoing treatment at GMC on Sunday morning. After the post mortem the body was handed to the relatives for final rites.

Exam failure is increasingly taking a toll on the young who unable to cope with the pressure of passing their exams and obtaining  the best grades, resort to the extreme step.  Last week, a class XI science student who failed for the second consecutive time in three subjects committed suicide by jumping from the third floor of a building located at the Ponda bus stand.
Vishnu A P Natrajan (18), died on the spot due to head injuries after he jumped off the Princess Heritage building at KTC bus stand, Varkhandem, Ponda.
It was the second time that a student has committed suicide in Varkhandem within a period of one month. The first case was pf a 14-year-old girl who had committed suicide after her mother berated her for playing with a tablet.
