Except for BJP, other South Goa candidates against Mopa

MARGAO: Bharatiya Janata Party South Goa candidate, Narendra Sawaikar skipped the meeting called by Goans for Dabolim Only at the Lohia Maidan here on Wednesday, even as candidates who turned up for the meeting swore by Dabolim and vowed to scrap Mopa airport.

Candidates fielded by Aam Aadmi Party Swati Kerkar, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco (Congress), Churchill Alemao (Trinamool Congress), Savio Rodrigues (Goa Su Raj party), Raju Mangueshkar (CPI) and Shalom Sardinha (Ind) 
publicly declared their stand against Mopa.
TMC candidate Churchill Alemao set the ball rolling saying that his stand remains the same since 2006 that Mopa should be scrapped. He said his fight to save Dabolim will continue.
AAP candidate Swati Kerkar said she is one politician, who has been opposed to Mopa from day one. Saying that she stands by her conviction, Swati said she wholly respects the voice of Goans on the airport issue.
Saying that he will never support Mopa airport, Independent candidate Shalom Sardinha said he would take the fight against Mopa to its logical conclusion.
CPI candidate Raju Mangueshkar said his fight against Mopa will continue irrespective of the result in the Lok Sabha polls. “I had fought against several issues since the last 36 years,” he said, while demanding that the government acquire Zuari land for further expansion of Dabolim airport.
Goa Su Raj party nominee Savio Rodrigues vowed to oppose Mopa and dared the national parties to declare that they will scrap the proposed airport.
Congress candidate, Reginaldo declared that he is opposed to Mopa and will work only for Dabolim airport.
