PANJIM: With the election phase having concluded in Goa on Tuesday, the Excise Department, during the model code of conduct period so far, conducted 5311 raids and booked 343 cases.
As per records with the department, the excise flying squads cracked down on 2443 and 2868 places in the north and south districts respectively from January 4 to February 7, three days after the polling ended in the State. Repolling at booth number 8 at Aquem-Margao was held on Tuesday after it was called off on voting day due to technical reasons. The revenue generated during this period has been recorded at Rs 53.98 lakh approximately.
Salcete recorded 937 raids, the highest, followed by 679 cases in Ponda, 614 in Tiswadi and 612 in Bardez, that otherwise saw the maximum of 88 cases registered. Canacona stood second with 49 cases while the least, seven cases, were booked in Bicholim taluka.

Excise Department has earned Rs 8.36 lakh approximately from the auctioning of cashew zones in the last two months. In the two auctions held till date, 138 zones were bid for out of a total 1662 spread across the State. The department earned Rs 32.23 lakh in the last calendar year, a little more than revenue generated in 2015 which was recorded at Rs 31.93 lakh. The year 2014 had fetched Rs 34.58 lakh.
