PONDA: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has called for extending the ban on import and sale of fish from other States by another 15 days.
Addressing the media here, MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar appreciated the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) director for raiding the fish carrying trucks in Margao wholesale fish market and detecting that they were laced with formalin.
Congratulating Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for banning import and sale of fish from other States, he said that since only few Goans are left in the State, the government should take care of their health.
He speculated that due to completion among agents, fish is laced with formalin to earn profit.
He also called upon the FDA keep a watch on vegetables and fruits brought from other States to prevent that they are not laced with preservatives.
He said Horticulture Department imports 100 tonnes of vegetables from other States to supply it to Goans and that FDA should check their quality daily.
