PONDA: A 58-year-old man, Deepak Raia Naik, was allegedly murdered with an axe following a family dispute at Khajorda, Borim, around 5.30 pm on Sunday.
Police said the incident stemmed from a quarrel between cousins and two brothers living in a partitioned ancestral house. The dispute arose after the victim placed roof tiles outside the house during repairs, which the accused opposed, claiming it blocked access for their motorcycle.
The argument escalated, during which Saideep Khushan Naik (24) allegedly assaulted the victim with a stick, while the prime accused, Gauresh Khushan Naik (22), allegedly struck him on the neck with an axe, causing fatal injuries on the spot.
Police have registered a murder case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Saideep Naik has been taken into custody, while Gauresh Naik is absconding.
Special teams have been formed to trace the accused, and further investigation is underway.
