Farmagudi fort wall collapses due to heavy rains

PONDA: The front side wall of Farmagudi Fort dedicated to Chatrapapti Shivaji collapsed on Friday night due to heavy rainfall. The remaining portion of the wall is also on verge of collapse and needs urgent government attention.

PONDA: The front side wall of Farmagudi Fort dedicated to Chatrapapti Shivaji collapsed on Friday night due to heavy rainfall.

According Ramdas Naik, a local, the wall collapsed due to lack of maintenance work; former Shiv Sena leader Kamlakanth Naik too is of the same opinion.
Former chief minister Shashikala Kakodkar constructed the fort in memory of and as a tribute to Chatrapapti Shivaji who tried to free Goa from Portuguese rulers. The fort is big a tourist attraction, where the government celebrates birth anniversary of Shivaji every year.
