MARGAO: In a bid to change the past, Police personnel from the District Headquarters at Margao have carried out a concerted drive to contact people keeping their flats or houses closed during the Ganesh festival season to visit their ancestral house to celebrate the festival.
It may be recalled that every year there are any number of house breaking cases reported with people complaining of their valuables and even household items being stolen.
Police personnel have tried to contact as many people as possible to tell them not to keep any valuables like jewellery in the house if it is going to be locked for a few days. They have been told to either keep the valuables at a bank locker or take it with them.
Policemen on local beat have contacted as many building managing committees to convey the message of safety to their members. Besides, policemen have been telling every person they meet from Margao to be careful.
Prominent people in the locality have also been contacted to disseminate the information and police are confident that with people turning vigilant and careful the housebreaking cases will be less this year.
Margao Town Police have been facing severe hardships with a large number of housebreaking cases reported in the last few months and with no headway made in solving the crimes.
