PANJIM: The Shiv Sena on Saturday extended its support to the All Goa Mid-day Meal Federation (AGMDMF), and objected to the State Government’s decision to finalise the Bengaluru-based ‘Akshaya Patra’, a non-profit wing of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), to provide cooked food to schools under Mid-day Meal Scheme.
“The Shiv Sena extends its full support to the All Goa Mid-day Meal Federation which consists of 105 self-help groups and mahila mandals from all over the State. We strongly object to the State government’s decision to finalise the Bengaluru-based ‘Akshaya Patra,’ to provide cooked food to schools under the Mid-day Meal Scheme,” Shiv Sena said.
“This decision of the government will affect 1,000 families directly and more than 2,000 indirectly,” Shiv Sena spokesperson Jitesh Kamat said.
He further said that terminating their contract and giving it to a firm from outside Goa, that too wasting Rs 12 crore, will be an injustice to them and instead the government should spend the money to improve standard of self help groups and mahila mandals in the State.
“We warn that Shiv Sena will come on streets with all self help groups if the contracts are not renewed. Terminating contracts from our own sisters and mothers and giving it to outsiders is definitely not a sign of Goenkarponn,” Kamat said
