MARGAO: Following the developments on August 20 wherein the two affected villages of Guirdolim and Chandor Cavorim, were no in consonance over the matter of motorable access across the level crossing along the South Western Railway track, a joint meeting of both the villages is convened on September 10.
It may be recalled that on August 16, local MLA Clafasio Dias along with neighbouring MLA Nilesh Cabral and engineers from the Bharat Rail Nigam Ltd, South Western Railways, Public Works Department and Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation descended at the site of the level crossing and confabulated with the locals gathered there.
The engineers insisted that an underpass with a height of 2.2 mts was the best option to avoid the underpass getting flooded particularly during the monsoons.
As there was a difference of opinion, an extraordinary Gram Sabha of Guirdolim was convened on August 20 to discuss the issue where the villagers agreed to a railway underpass but with a height of at least 3 metres.
In neighbouring Chandor Cavorim where the ordinary gram sabha was held on the same date, the villagers took umbrage to the fact that they were not invited for the discussions with the engineers.
and urged the Sarpanch to call for a joint meeting with the two MLAs and also Guirdolim villagers to discuss the matter threadbare.
Accordingly, Chandor Cavorim Sarpanch Celina Coelho e Furtado has now convened a meeting on September 10, at 10 am at the Chandor Football ground where a pandal is proposed to be erected to protect the gathered crowd from the rain.
The sarpanch informed that both the MLAs have agreed to be present for the meeting and urged people to attend it so that the matter can finally be decided upon.
While the engineers have opined that a railway over bridge at the site is not possible some villagers are of the opinion that given the advanced technology available, a solution can be worked out and point out how a uniquely shaped bridge was constructed at Margao at the site of the old level crossing.
