Fatorda BJP unit demands action against illegal constructions

The Fatorda unit of the BJP on Tuesday confronted the Margao Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho and Chief Officer Y B Tawde and demanded action against all illegal constructions in the city.
Led by block President Durgadas Prabhu, the BJP activists accused the Civic body for turning a blind eye to the illegalities at Borda and Talzan Zhor.
The activists made a pointed reference to the bar along the Borda road owned by a Youth Congress leader, which was only recently sealed by the Margao Civic body. He claimed the owner has not maintained the required set back as per building rules and demanded action.
Prabhu later told newsmen that the Margao Civic body is playing the role of a mute spectator as illegal constructions mushroom in the city unabated..
He demanded the immediate transfer of MMC Chief Officer Y B Tawde for his inefficiency and unavailability to meet members of the public.
The MMC Chairperson Coutinho told the activists that the Council during his brief stint has been successful in initiating action against illegalities in the city.
He told the BJP leaders that maximum action has been initiated against the illegalities during his brief tenure.
