Fatorda social worker Milagred Fernandes has urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to cover the open drain located in front of the South Goa District Hospital and develop the area into additional parking space for visitors.
Raising concerns over the condition of the drain, Fernandes said it poses both a public health and safety hazard. He pointed out that stagnant water in the open drain could become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of vector-borne diseases in the vicinity of the hospital.
He also said covering the drain would not only improve sanitation but also help ease the shortage of parking for patients, visitors and hospital staff.
Fernandes called on the PWD to take immediate action to address the long-pending issue. He further alleged that despite repeated concerns raised by the public, the local councillor has failed to resolve the matter.
The social worker urged the authorities to prioritise the project in the interest of public health, safety and improved infrastructure around the district hospital.
