Four persons detained; 450 Samosas seized

PONDA: In a shocking incident, four persons were allegedly caught preparing eatables under unhygienic conditions, which were then supplied to hotels, sweet marts and schools in Ponda city.
Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Thursday raided four places in the city and detained four persons, besides seizing 450 Samosas from Durgabhat, Sapna Park, near Vithoba Temple and from JC Nagar-Ponda.
According to FDA officials, four persons have been detained, while one person fled while the raid was being conducted.
The FDA officials informed that a notice was recently served after it was found that the accused were operating without obtaining NOC from the FDA and the places from where these accused were operating were unhygienic in nature.
It is learnt that these four centres were supplying an average of 3,000 Samosas to hotels, sweet marts and schools in the city and nearby areas on a daily basis.
The FDA team led by Food Inspector Rajiv Korde conducted the raid. “The four vendors in the business of Samosas didn’t have permissions from the FDA. The vendors were preparing Samosas in unhygienic conditions and after the notice was served, the accused had assured to stop the activity. However, they continued with the business in unhygienic conditions,” informed Korde.
FDA officials have also attached frying pans from these four centres. The four accused persons have been detained for questioning and accordingly, a case will be booked against them.
