MARGAO: Concerns are mounting over potential delays in the implementation of the first-ever District Development Plan (DDP) for South Goa, following recent changes in leadership at the South Goa Zilla Panchayat (SGZP). The resignation of former SGZP Chairperson Suvarna Tendulkar has raised questions about whether the reshuffle will impact the progress made during her tenure.

The recent reshuffle of the SGZP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is also likely to lead to further delays. While the DPC had received the government approval for the 3,400-odd development proposals, with an estimated costs of Rs 148 crore, there have been demands that despite these changes in personnel, there is no further delay for the DDP or else the painstakingly long exercise, which overcome the usual obstacles previous SGZP bodies faced, will have been in vain.
These demands have come from local panchayat bodies and unions who have been pressing for the quick implementation of the DDP.
