MARGAO: The PWD Chief chemist will arrive in Margao on Monday to carry out further testing of the contaminated underground water pipeline before giving the green signal to the PWD to release water for human consumption.
Sunday saw PWD Assistant Engineer Vijai Kudchadkar and his team working in coordination with the chemist posted at the Gogol division checking the line after the line was disinfected with an additional dose of chlorine. Though the results have come out positive, the local PWD officials said the final call will be taken by the chief chemist before the tap water is allowed for human consumption.
Water supply to some parts of the city, including Malbhat, Pajifond and Gandhi market stands disrupted since the last 10 days after sewage mixed with sludge found its way into the underground pipeline. While the PWD has flushed out the line they are waiting for the green signal from the chief chemist and the principal chief engineer to release water.
