PANJIM: The Legislative Assembly on Friday unanimously resolved to provide financial assistance to the Mission Rabies campaign that pledged to surgically sterilize and vaccinate dogs.
The opposition and ruling benches were unanimous on financial support to the campaign, forcing Animal Husbandry Minister Ramesh Tawadkar to assure Rs 50 lakh grant to the campaign.
The question was tabled by Leader of the Opposition Pratapsingh Rane who sought to know what steps the government has initiated to control the spread of rabies and whether stray dogs are being vaccinated. “It is a serious disease. Hundreds of animals are dying with dog bites having rabies. Before people start dying, action needs to be taken,” he said.
The House was informed about the work undertaken by Mission Rabies.
