MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has said the fire at Sonsoddo garbage dump on March 15 is an indicator that the authorities have failed to find a permanent solution to the fire hazard at this site as there are regular fire outbreaks occurring.
He pointed out that since the major fire in May 2019 at Sonsoddo that lasted for many days and which was doused off only by dumping mud on the dump yard there have been regular fire incidents at the site.

However, he said, the authorities have not taken any serious preventive measures to ensure that fires do not recur at the site. He termed the recurring fire as nothing but “sheer lethargic attitude” by the staff working at the site.
Asking the staff at Sonsoddo and the government to identify the real cause of fire eruptions, Reginaldo also asked for strict vigil at the site to prevent fire break outs.
“People from the surrounding areas including Curtorim are affected due to the poisonous smoke billowing out from the fire at Sonsoddo,” he said.
