PANJIM: The Crime Branch today registered a First Information Report (FIR) into the criminal complaint filed by Department of Mines and Geology on illegal mining scam. The complaint was filed on July 26.
According to senior police officers, the names which figure in the reports attached with the complaint will be the focus of the investigation.
Mines Director Prasanna Acharya had lodged complaint based on reports of Central Empowered Committee (CEC), Justice M B Shah Commission and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and attached the reports he had relied on to the complaint. A team under SP O P Kurtarkar was formed to verify the details of the voluminous document.
Justice M B Shah’s comprehensive report to the Union Mines Ministry had held former Chief Ministers among other politicians, mine owners and State and Central government officials responsible for the large scale illegal mining between 2005-2012 with the total loss pegged at more than Rs 35,000 crore.
