CURCHOREM: Guardian Angel High School, Curchorem thumped Pope John XXIII High School, Quepem 2-0 to emerge champions in Quepem Taluka U-14 Subroto Mukerjee Boys football organized by DSYA at Sheldem Panchayat ground, Tilamol-Quepem.
Pope John started on a promising note and could have scored in the very first minute but the rival custodian came up with a smart save. They enjoyed the lion’s share of ball possession but their forwards ran out of ideas upfront.
At the other end, Guardian Angel scored against the run of play when Sanford Fernandes saw the rival goalkeeper out of his position and finished cleverly.
Changing ends, Pope John tried hard to equalize but were caught off guard when Sanford Fernandes scored his second with a beautiful placement in the 55th minute.
Chief guest Pramod Dessai, sarpanch of village panchayat of Sheldem gave away the certificates to the winners and runner-up in the presence of Guardian Angel headmaster, Fr Walter Miranda, Fr Aurelio Rodrigues, and Menino Fernandes, GFA match commissioner.
Earlier, John Fernandes, APEO welcomed. He later proposed the vote of thanks.
