MARGAO: North Goa MP and BJP leader Sripad Naik on Monday said that driving out casinos before the expiry of their agreements will send a wrong message to businessman that Goa is not a safe place for investment.
He also said the party would decide the names of the party candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats two-three months before the polls.
In an informal chat with newsmen during his visit to the Margao district police headquarters, the North Goa MP said the Chief Minister has made it categorically clear that the government will give no more licenses for casinos. “As far as the existing casinos are concerned, they have made investments. Driving them out before their agreements expire will send a wrong signal that Goa is not safe for investments. The existing casinos will stay here till the expiry of their agreements,” he said.
On dance bars, Naik said the BJP is opposed to dance bars and will never support opening of such bars in the state.
Saying that the party would work hard to win both the Lok Sabha seats from Goa, Naik said the names of the candidates will be finalised by the party’s Parliamentary Board and the election Committee two-three months before the polls. When asked whether Damu Naik will be the party candidate for the South Goa seat, he said names of all probable candidates will be forwarded to the party’s Parliamentary Board for a decision.
Asked to comment on reports that the Bahujan Samaj has been neglected by the Parrikar-led government, Naik said, “It depends on each one’s perception. We are in the BJP with a mission. There may be ups and downs when we are heading towards our target. We should be prepared to make some adjustments, but at the same time ensure that such things do not happen.”
