Fire at Margao Market Sparks Safety Concerns; Local Raises Alarm Over Lack of Measures

Margao: Following the recent fire incident at New Market, Margao, concerns over inadequate fire safety measures in the market have once again come to the forefront.

Local resident Chirag Naik expressed alarm over the situation, stating that he has been urging authorities for the past two years to implement proper fire safety systems in the market area. Despite approaching multiple offices, he claimed that no concrete action has been taken so far.

Naik said the incident highlights the urgent need for improved safety infrastructure, adding that the market requires comprehensive renovation along with better facilities for vendors.

He, however, welcomed the efforts of Digambar Kamat, the MLA of Margao, for initiating work to replace the market’s roofing sheets, describing it as a step in the right direction.

Naik expressed hope that authorities will now act swiftly to address the long-pending safety concerns and upgrade the market with necessary facilities to prevent such incidents in the future.
