PANJIM: Mapusa fire station conducted a fire and evacuation drill at St Mary’s Convent School, Mapusa.In all, 1,420 students were evacuated within five minutes, while one student trapped in a class room on the second floor of the school building was rescued. Demonstration of rescue from a height and use of first aid portable fire extinguishers were also conducted under the supervision of Station Fire Officer D D Redkar along with other fire officers from Mapusa.
The school team was led by Headmistress Sister Maria Namika A C with assistance of school teachers who acted as floor marshals. Various teams were formed by the school staff. A representative from the Education Department Jacob Varghese was also present.
