MARGAO: Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate on Monday had to face an angry crowd over the pending land rights due to the land losers, at a meeting held, at Firgulem, Navelim.
The minister assured to do all that she can to get the long-pending issue of title documents to the properties. The meet was attended by Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro, Sarpanch of Aquem Baixo Siddhesh Bhagat and members of the 48 land acquisition affected families.
The 48 households of Firgulem, Navelim were given propriety rights to their land after the historic private member’s revenue Bill of Labour was passed by the Goa Assembly in October 2016.
The households had lost their land when the military took over the land in Rawanfond. The families were rehabilitated to a private land in Firgulem back then but all the successive governments and MLAs of Navelim failed to acquire the land for the residents.
The process for giving land rights to the people moved quickly after late Manohar Parrikar as defence minister intervened during his Central tenure. However, after that the landowner of the area which the people got rights approached the court denying the people even further.
The people on this land have been getting notices of the panchayat which has irked the people even further. “I have heard both the sides and have assured to look into the matter for a solution soon,” Monserrate said.
“When I was told that they still receive notices from the panchayat, I have raised the issue with the minister and requested her to take up the matter,” said Navelim MLA Faleiro.
The minister also said that the land acquisition and tenancy cases were discussed at the meeting and a report on the pending cases has been sought to expedite the process.
