Fishermen Nab Six Illegal Fishing Boats Off South Goa Coast

Fishermen from Benaulim, Varca, Velsao, and Colva have intercepted six boats allegedly engaged in illegal fishing off the South Goa coast, after spotting around 250–300 vessels from Karnataka entering Goa waters and casting nets close to the shore.

With the help of fellow fishermen, the Fisheries Department and Coastal Police, the six boats were seized and handed over to Fisheries authorities for further action.

The incident has reignited concerns over the unchecked movement of out‑of‑state trawlers and the need for tighter monitoring to protect Goa’s marine resources and local fishing communities.
