Fishing boat capsizes at Mobor

Four rescued, one missing

PANJIM: Despite the rough weather conditions prevailing in the State, four of the five fishermen, who had gone fishing on Thursday morning, were rescued, as their fishing boat capsized in the River Sal at Mobor. However, one of them is still reported to be missing.
According to information, at 8.30 am, the five workers namely Bimal Kalvar, Subhash Singh, Blasias Minj, Arjun Korva and Vasu found themselves in troubled waters when their fishing boat “Caitan” capsized. 
Two fishermen managed to swim ashore while one was rescued by a Drishti lifeguard posted at Mobor and the other was assisted by a water sports operator on a jetski. 
Nitish Velip, the lifeguard on duty at Mobor, received a call from the Coast Guard informing them about the incident and requested for assistance. 
The lifeguard communicated the message to the nearest tower in Cavelossim seeking a jetski for rescue operation. 
On noticing the victims crying for help, Nitish ventured into the waters with a rescue tube. 
The lifeguard rescued one victim with the help of the rescue tube and brought him safely ashore. Another lifeguard on a jetski rescued the other victim and brought him to the shore. Two other fishermen managed to swim to the shore.
According to the survivors, Vasu, who was onboard the fishing boat, is still missing. The lifeguard on the jetski went out searching for him, but failed to trace him as the boat had capsized. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard helicopter was pressed into service to locate the missing fisherman. The Coast Guard team was still looking out for the missing fisherman till late night.
