PANJIM/VASCO: Seven fishermen managed to swim to safety while another was rescued by lifeguards after a fishing boat capsized off the Baina beach.
According to information available, seven sailors swam to safety after their fishing boat capsized around 70 metres from the shore. The lifeguard rushed to the spot where the boat capsized and saved one fishermen with the help of a rescue tube.
All of them went through a preliminary medical check to examine their vitals after they reached the shore.
At Morjim, a 38-year-old Russian tourist was caught in a rip current while swimming and was rescued by a lifeguard with the help of a surfboard.
At Calangute beach, two young tourists ventured into the water and were pulled in by a strong current and started to drown. Two lifesavers intervened quickly, utilising both – a rescue tube and a surfboard to aid the duo to shore.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old Karnataka resident stepped into sea off Calangute beach, in an inebriated condition and was knocked down by a rough wave. He was rescued by lifesaver Vikas using a rescue tube and a surfboard.
An on-duty lifeguards also stumbled upon an injured unidentified man, aged between 20-25 who was lying behind bushes around 100 metres from the Calangute beach. The victim was profusely bleeding. The police were promptly notified. Upon their arrival, an ambulance was summoned and the victim was swiftly transported to the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.
