The SGPDA business establishments complex that
housed half of Salcete’s government ofices until
they all moved to the new Margao Collectorate has an
over 3,000 sq mts parking area. But the area has soft
clay and a huge water logging problem. To make matters
worse, people coming to the new Inox at Margao and
Osia theatre just drive in to the area and park just after
the approach road to avoid the looded portion. Most of
the parking lot is ignored by residents because of the
murky water puddles and an entire parking lot goes to
waste while trafic from the market and government
ofices spills into the main market roads creating trafic
jams. Also the soft clay, inundated with water is a place
where car wheels get stuck and create a danger zone
in the name of parking. The theatres do not man their
parking. Even worse, the same ground if dry is let out to
exhibitions denying parking to Margao most of the time
while the trafic struggles with parking and commuting.
The soft clay needs to be replaced with some pavers,
storm water drains are needed and dedicated parking
spots should be marked. People parking should pay and
park their vehicles to know the importance of parking.
