PANJIM: A birthday party allegedly held inside Col- vale Central Jail-where food, liquor, and narcot- ics were reportedly made available to inmates-has raised serious questions about who exactly controls activities inside the prison. A senior officer within the jail administration told O Heraldo that the incident took place a few months ago during an inmate’s birthday celebration. According to the officer, certain jail staff members were allegedly complicit in the event, help- ing arrange for food, liquor, and narcotics to be smug gled inside the prison walls. While these allegations are based on the senior officer’s account and still require independent veri- fication by jail authorities, the source stated that a sen- jor jail official subsequently learned of the party and the severe security lapses that allowed it to occur. Show- cause notices were then is- sued to the staff members allegedly responsible for permitting the event. However, the matter did not end there.
According to the senior officer, a formal complaint regarding the incident was made to higher authori- ties, prompting an inquiry. The officer claimed that this inquiry and its related proceedings are part of the official records of the jail administration. What fol- lowed next, however, was described by the source as even more alarming.

The senior jail officer who originally raised the issue allegedly received an open life threat from in- mates inside the facility. The officer was reported- ly threatened with being stabbed and killed inside the prison walls.
The threat was subse- quently brought to the attention of senior author- ities, and a formal inquiry into the intimidation tactics was sought. However, ac- cording to the senior officer who spoke to 0 Heraldo, that investigation took an extraordinary turn.
CCTV footage from the exact location where the al- leged life threat was made was reportedly found to be no longer available. With the critical footage missing, the inquiry allegedly failed to establish the threat, and the investigation ground to a halt.
