Teen, Parents Die After Maharashtra Cliff Tragedy; Mother’s Post Adds Twist to Probe

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: A cryptic social media post by the mother of an 18-year-old who died after falling from a 250-foot-deep cliff in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has added a new dimension to the police investigation into the family tragedy.

According to police, multiple videos showed Kunal Chandgude standing on the edge of the cliff and threatening to die by suicide. His parents, Murlidhar and Sangeeta, reportedly spent hours trying to persuade him to move away from the edge.

The situation turned fatal when Kunal’s father attempted to pull him to safety. The two reportedly lost their footing and fell into the gorge. Moments later, Sangeeta also jumped from the cliff and died, police said.

Police have also been investigating whether financial stress played a role in the incident. Officials said Kunal had purchased an Apple iPhone but was unable to pay the instalments, and had reportedly argued with his father over the EMI payments on Friday morning before going to the cliff.

Sources, however, said the teenager had allegedly attempted suicide at the same location a year earlier. They also pointed to tensions within the family following the death of the couple’s elder son.

The mother’s cryptic post has prompted police to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and the events leading up to the tragedy.
