SANGUEM: In a bid to improve eco tourism activities while simultaneously helping the villagers to earn some revenue for their livelihood, the Range Forest Officer, Wild Life Division, Netravali has urged the panchayat to pass a resolution showing their interest in the subject matter of building eco tourism activities in the village.
The letter issued by the RFO to Netravali and other nearby village panchayat claims the move to be part of the Forest Department conservative education efforts with primary motive to sensitise the visitors and to provide and improve the livelihood opportunities for the local people residing within the precincts of Netravali Village Panchayat.
The letter further states that night accommodation “Mattoni” in eco huts in long run will also help provide more revenue generation for small businesses in the panchayat area.
Netravali Panchayat Panch Antonetta Mascarenhas informed that the matter pertaining to the letter addressed by the RFO is under consideration and the panchayat body has not taken a final decision yet.
Mascarenhas said that the panchayat is in favour of such activities in the village as it will ensure jobs to the local youth and others.
She asserted that while submitting its go ahead say to the Forest Department, a rider for compulsory employment of locals at all such establishments will be inserted in the resolution.
