PANJIM: The State-of-the art facility for sampling and testing to detect the presence of formaldehyde (formalin) in fish will be set up at Margao’s SGPDA market.
Speaking to media persons, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has accorded his financial approval for setting up testing facility at Margao. “It will be put in place shortly. The testing facility within the market premises will build up the much-needed confidence amongst the local consumers,” he said.
As reported earlier, the Export Inspection Council (EIC), the competent authority for certification of seafood for export registered with Government of India, will monitor the quality of fish that is imported to Goa.
Rane also said there was need for a dedicated wholesale fish market in North Goa, which could provide market for the fish traders from Maharashtra.
