Former Congress Rajya Sabha MP and former GPCC state president Shantaram Naik passes away

Former
Congress Rajya Sabha MP and ex GPCC state president Shantaram Naik breathed his
last this morning in Margao. He passed away following a severe heart attack. As
the news of his demise spread like wildfire, condolences started pouring in
from ruling and opposition leaders via social media.

Girish
Chodankar, GPCC President said, “Sad to inform the untimely demise of our ex
president ex MP Shri Shantaram Naik this morning around 6:30 am on way to
Trimurty Hospital. The funeral will take place tomorrow at 11 am at his
Cuncolim Residence.”

Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to express his grief over Naik’s death. He tweeted,
“I’m sorry to hear about the passing away of Shri Shantaram Naik, former Goa
Congress Chief, MP and senior Congress leader, who played an important role in
the battle for Goa’s statehood. My condolences to his family in their time of
grief. May his soul rest in peace.”

leader Elvis Gomes said, “AAP Goa condoles the sudden passing away of Shantaram
Naik, former MP and Congress leader. He remained a loyal soldier of the Congress
till the end. Naik’s contribution to the cause of Goa, Konkani and secularism
will always be remembered.”
